our perspectives & others we discover along the way
...but we sure do experience our shared reality differently.
Don is always engineering, in his head, onboard, and ashore. He focuses intently on what is at hand, and once he starts, doesn't quit until it's perfect, good enough, or better than when he started.
Natalie is always mulling over all the future possibilities while tackling multiple tasks incrementally. She tries to create orderly plans to move forward on refitting Elysian while not sacrificing all of the activities she is passionate about, which means that every day is too short to finish what she wanted to accomplish. Just how does one yoga, dance, sew, swim, snorkel, journal, document all the moments, clean, cook, scrub the decks, and varnish all the wood in a day anyway?
As the proud, and regularly overwhelmed owners of Elysian, we've discovered that sailing life is a full-time repair and cleaning job where the boat tells us what we're going to do that day. There are plenty of watery and relaxing moments sprinkled throughout our time, though it generally happens after sunset, when the lighting isn't good enough to work by anymore!
Don is an Electronics and Renewable Energy Engineer, and extremely analytical. Things fall into one of two categories, either they are "right" or they're NOT! This of course can be good, or BAD!
Lately, a lot of things have not been working out as nicely as we would have hoped, so Don has grumpy face a lot. This was recently mitigated by the fact that it appears as though we may not have to rebuild the entire generator diesel motor, just fix a broken pushrod. Here's hoping that's all!
(And the new solar panel arrangement seems to be working so we're making water again!)
There are multiple system failures (limited solar and no generator) occurring this past week and I'm amazed at just how calm and accepting I have been about the lack of creature comforts like hot water, refrigeration, and bountiful water to drink and shower under.
I've changed a lot since moving aboard Elysian just before the start of the pandemic and I appreciate just how tolerant and resilient I've become.
